OUR FAIR CITY / illustrations and web design - 2011-2014
Our Fair City launched in 2011 as a fully independent online post-apocalyptic audio drama. Over the course of five seasons, the show has become an official non-profit organization and gone on to win much-deserved critical acclaim for its writing, production and sound design, while building a fully realized world of science, comedy, horror and biting satire in the process. I'm proud to have been involved since the launch of the second season as an illustrator, creating artwork to accompany various episodes over the years, featuring everything from zombies, giant ants, airships, reality TV shows, ambulances, and high-rise window washers.
Between the second and third seasons, Our Fair City’s organizers asked me to redesign their website. This gave me the chance to create a number of visual elements that have since served as core elements of the “look” of Our Fair City, including a custom typeface, a clockwork flower motif, the logo for Hartlife (the show’s fictional corporate governmental bureaucracy), and an alternate logo for Our Fair City itself. The website, developed by Michael Tomczak, places a heavy emphasis on visuals and illustration, since Our Fair City is such a strong supporter of Chicago’s illustrators and comic book artists as well as its audio community.
